September 2 - The Port of Strasbourg has received a 370-tonne gas turbine from General Electric's (GE) factory in Belfort, France for final delivery to the Russian city of Kazan.
The turbine, which measured 11.4 m x 5.1 m x 5.2 m, was transported to the French port on two 14 axle-line trailers accompanied by two pulling and two pushing tractor units - a transport combination measuring 109 m long.
On arrival at Strasbourg's heavy lift terminal, the turbine was loaded onto a barge using a 460-tonne gantry crane for shipment down the River Rhine to Antwerp. The inland waterway transport was organised by Rhenus Logistics Alsace.
From the Belgian hub, the turbine will be shipped to St Petersburg before being delivered to its final destination in Kazan.
This is the third GE 9HA gas turbine to be received by the Port of Strasbourg. The first prototype turbine was delivered to the USA in March 2014 via the French port, while in July 2015, the first sold turbine made its way to a power plant in Bouchain, France along the country's inland waterways.
