July 5 - Steder Group Djibouti has transported two 130-tonne ball valves for Genale Dawa hydroelectric power project from the Port of Djibouti to the project site in Ethiopia.
The cargo was transported 1,450 km, and travelled through tunnels inside the dam to reach the installation area, which presented numerous challenges.
Genale Dawa is one of the largest hydropower dam projects currently being undertaken by Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP). It is being designed and constructed by the Chinese Corporation, CGGC with MWH undertaking the role of owner's engineer.
Steder has been actively involved in the project and in 2013 managed the transportation of a heavy and over-dimensional tunnel boring machine and two tunnel boring machine grippers to the construction site.
Steder Group Djibouti is a member of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) and Cargo Equipment Experts (CEE).
