April 9 - Russian Railways Logistics (RZDL) has purchased a 50 percent stake in Latvian rail freight company Liepajas Naftas Tranzits (LNT) through its affiliated partner RZDL Multimodal.
RZDL said that it is strategically focused on the expansion of its rail freight market, as well as setting up a consolidated rail transport chain connecting the ports of Latvia.
This new project will allow RZDL to provide stable and regular westbound transit, while giving LNT a range of legal support in the workings of Russia's freight forwarding market, said the company.
"We believe that the cooperation with the Latvian based freight forwarder will give us a lot of new opportunities within the multimodal transport market of the EU," said RZDL ceo Pavel Sokolov.
