Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) has taken delivery of two LHM 550 mobile harbour cranes from Liebherr.
The Mozambique port already has two cranes of the same type. Liebherr noted that the LHM 550 is well suited to handling high-density bulk material such as ferrochrome, which is one of the main products that moves through Maputo.
MPDC chief operations officer Marla Calado said:“In addition to the two mobile harbour cranes, we have recently acquired 14 payloaders, eight tractors, eight forklifts and two rail excavators (for wagon unloading operations). This investment is in line with the need to improve the berth usage and the rehabilitation and deepening works that are taking place at the moment.”
Besides supplying the machines themselves, Liebherr is also providing training in their operation and maintenance.
