Haventus has secured a GBP100 million (USD126.5 million) joint credit facility to develop Ardersier port, Scotland, into a wind energy gateway.
Haventus, owned by energy investment firm Quantum Capital Group, was established in 2023 and is developing the port in the Moray Firth, east of Inverness. It secured the credit facility from the Scottish Investment Bank and the UK Infrastructure Bank (UKIB), which will supplement a GBP300 million (USD380 million) capital commitment from Quantum.
The funds will go towards the development of a 650 m quay wall and associated quayside that will support the deployment of fixed and floating offshore wind projects. Located within the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, Ardersier port’s 450-acre (182-ha) site should be suitable for marshalling, integration, manufacturing and assembly of offshore wind components.
According to Haventus, the gateway will be the largest dedicated offshore wind deployment port facility in Scotland. Chief executive Lewis Gillies said: “With work now under way on site, we aim to have the facility open and operational in the second half of next year. This progress has been achieved in a very short period, due in large measure to the constructive engagement we have had with the Highland Council, our consenting agencies and regulators and government departments.”
Haventus was founded following the success of the 2022 ScotWind offshore wind leasing round, which approved approximately 28 GW of offshore wind development off Scotland’s North Sea coasts. Vast investment in port infrastructure is needed to support the build-out of that project pipeline.
