January 31 - The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) is closer to beginning the concessioning process of the Onitsha, Lokoja, Baro and Oguta River ports in Nigeria, after receiving a certificate of compliance.
The NIWA's managing director, Boss Mustapha, confirmed receipt of the certificate of compliance from the Infrastructure Concession Regulation Commission (ICRC) during a tour of the area offices under his jurisdiction.
According to the NIWA, Mustapha said the concession of the Nigerian ports will allow for private sector management and trigger improved utilisation of the inland waterways for the transportation of goods.
