July 13 - Compass Logistics International (CLI) has transported nine industrial steam boilers from John Thompson's production plant in Cape Town, South Africa to Jakarta, Indonesia, on behalf of EuroAsiatic Jaya.
The boilers, which ranged in weight from 54 tons (49 tonnes) up to 65 tons (59 tonnes), with a combined weight of 558 tons (506.2 tonnes), were loaded onto specialist trucks and trailers using heavy lift cranes, for transport to the Port of Cape Town.
According to CLI, the overland transport of the out-of-gauge (OOG) cargoes required special permission from the City of Cape Town and the Cape Town Port Authorities, as well as route planning, permits and escorts for the convoy.
The industrial boilers were shipped for the majority of the voyage as a partial load on a bulk carrier, says CLI, with the part-charter of the vessel being arranged directly by the customer.
