November 24 - The newbuild multipurpose ice-classed vessel Kingfisher will join Atlantic Ro-Ro Carriers' (ARRC) service at the end of this month.

As part of the carrier's scheduled fleet upgrade initiative, the vessel will be employed on ARRC's service between St Petersburg, Russia, northwest Europe, and the US East Coast and Gulf ports.

The 28,000 dwt vessel has an overall length of 167.5 m and beam of 27.4 m, with two 120-tonne capacity cranes, box-shaped holds and a removable tweendeck.

ARRC has also recently revealed its 2015 low sulphur surcharge, charging (for breakbulk and project cargoes) an extra USD10 per revenue tonne on the Baltic - North America East Coast and US Gulf route; USD6 per revenue tonne on the Northern Europe - North America East Coast and US Gulf route; and USD5 on the Baltic - Northern Europe route.

The company made clear that this low sulphur surcharge will replace the previous surcharge of 4.5 percent, which will no longer cover the costs of the new sulphur emission requirements. The changes will become effective on January 1, 2015.
