August 18 - Thailand-based heavy lift contractor Silamas Group has teamed up with a local partner and industry veteran Patrick Dick to open an office in Yangon, Myanmar.
Silamas will deploy a specialised equipment fleet and will provide technical support from its head office in Bangkok.
Teerachan Pinpradub, general manager of Silamas Transport, Thailand and director of the Silamas Myanmar venture, explained that under the investment proposal, the group will send staff based in Myanmar for training at its headquarters in Thailand, and will also send engineers to Myanmar for training purposes.
Founder and owner of the Silamas Group, Chompoo Glinpu, said the opening of the Myanmar office was the next logical step after establishing its operation in neighbouring Laos.
An equipment yard is in the process of being established in Thanlyn next to Yangon's Myanmar International Terminals Thilawa (MITT) and close to the Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Silamas Myanmar's fleet will include a modular hydraulic trailer as well as a dropdeck, lowbed and extendable trailer.
Silamas Group provides heavy haulage and lifting services to the oil, gas, power, mining and other large scale industries in Southeast Asia.
