March 7 - The Port of Baltimore, USA has reported a record month for general cargo and containers in January 2017.

The port handled 923,030 tons (837,359 tonnes) of general cargo, including cars, containers, farm and construction equipment, forest products, and breakbulk. According to the port, most of the tonnage consisted of containers, which also had a record month in January, with 712,386 container tons (646,265.7 tonnes) moving through the port.

"This record-breaking growth is a direct result of Maryland's strategic investments in the Port of Baltimore," said Governor Larry Hogan.

The general cargo record is a 14 percent improvement from January 2016.
