Montrose Port Authority has received a GBP1.5 million (USD2 million) Ports Mode Shift Grant (PMSG) from the Scottish Government.
The grant will support the development of two new quaysides - berths seven west and eight. The improvements will increase the port's capacity and allow larger vessels to dock at the port.
Over a five-year period, the developments at the port are expected to remove 1.26 million tonnes of freight from Scottish roads as well as cut an estimated 86,000 lorry journeys.
The changes to the quaysides are expected to be completed in summer 2019.
