September 7 - Danish transport and logistics company Leman has acquired UK-based freight forwarder Maru International.
Maru, which has three offices in the UK and provides air, sea and logistics solutions in Europe, is Leman's third acquisition in the UK in under two years. Leman says the acquisition forms part of its strategy for viable and profitable growth through business acquisitions.
Thomas Krøyer, ceo of the Leman Group, explains that Maru's product portfolio complements Leman's current activities in the UK, adding: "Now we can offer a significantly improved and solid set-up across the UK.
After the merger, which is scheduled to be accomplished by Januaty 1, 2018, the company will consist of a total of 160 employees in the UK, with Jesper Thygesen of Leman UK continuing as managing director.
Both Vaughan Woolfitt and co-owner Joe Hemingway of Maru will continue with the company after the acquisition.
Maru International utilises conventional and ro-ro services for out-of-gauge (OOG), project and breakbulk services, while Leman's dedicated project division provides global door-to-door project transport.
