March 6 - Kuehne + Nagel posted a net turnover of CHF17.5 billion (USD17.93 billion), a 1.9 percent increase compared with 2013, while its gross profit rose by 0.5 percent to CHF6.28 billion (USD6.43 billion).
"In a volatile economic environment with fluctuating currencies, we were able to simultaneously expand our market share and increase results in 2014," said Kuehne + Nagel ceo Detlef Trefzger.
Kuehne + Nagel saw a 7 per cent rise in container units handled in 2014, compared with the previous year; while the company increased tonnage by 5.3 percent in the airfreight market.
A turnaround in the company's overland business was achieved in 2014, with EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) increasing by CHF38 million (USD38.9 million) compared with 2013.
"The annual result shows that our business unit strategies have proven to be effective and our targeted efforts at all levels have been rewarded," said chairman of the board of directors, Karl Gernandt. "In 2015 market conditions will again be challenging, therefore the continuous improvement of our performance remains our clear ambition."
