Ruth Kelly has been appointed chair of Thames Freeport, UK, effective immediately.
As a former secretary of state, she commands a deep knowledge of government and a strong grasp of the logistics sector, which will help drive forward the freeport’s transformation programmes to increase knowledge transfer, skills development and clean growth.
Thames Freeport is a digitally linked economic zone connecting Ford’s Dagenham engine plant, the ports at London Gateway and Tilbury.
HLPFI reported on October 29 that England’s first three freeports – Humber, Teesside and Thames – will be able to start operations in November.
