August 1 - Depth Logistics - an Australian 4PL specialising in the transportation of project and heavy cargoes worldwide - says the value of machinery imported into the country in June sunk to AUD147 million (USD136.7 million).
The figure is the lowest recorded since the launch of the Depth Logistics Shipping Index. Imports were 12 percent lower than in May 2014, 43 percent lower than in June 2013, and some 73 percent down on June 2012 figures.
Depth Logistics' clients - OEMs, dealers and contractors in the construction and mining sectors - are forecasting low to no import activity for the remainder of 2014. Export of used machinery is growing month-over-month, said the index.
