May 13 - Antwerp terminal operator Zuidnatie nv has inaugurated two new Terex Gottwald Model 8 mobile harbour cranes from Terex Port Solutions (TPS) at the Belgian port.
With a maximum lifting capacity of 200 tonnes each, the large cranes in the G HMK 8710 variant will help Zuidnatie to efficiently handle containers and general and project cargo, said Terex.
For handling particularly heavy project loads weighing up to 400 tonnes, both of the cranes will be equipped with the Terex Gottwald tandem lift system, which will allow the cranes to perform full 400-tonne capacity tandem lift operations and avoid capacity reductions.
"With the Model 8 cranes, our fleet is not only becoming more powerful but also more flexible," said Marcel Dubourg, ceo at Zuidnatie. "Because both cranes in combination can deal with loads up to 400 tonnes, we are in the position to offer our customers new handling solutions."
Zuidnatie's crane fleet currently comprises nine mobile harbour cranes from TPS.
Marc van Peel, chairman and alderman of the Antwerp Port Authority, added that the upgrade of the Zuidnatie fleet sets new standards for mobile harbour cranes and therefore "must also be seen as an upgrade of the entire port of Antwerp".
