July 19 - Albacor Shipping and LS - Cargo International, both members of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC), have handled the shipment of a tunnel boring machine (TBM) from Germany to the USA.
The TBM will be used to drill a tunnel between Watson Island and the Port of Miami.
The total cargo volume of 8,700 cu m, including the main drive with dimensions of 2.45m to 7.00 m x 6.97 m x 3.65 m, was transported from the factory in Germany to the Port of Rotterdam, loaded on to the Combi Dock 1 as a part charter and shipped to the Port of Miami
In Miami, the cargo was directly discharged onto barges and shipped to a dock near the jobsite, before being transported on multi-axle trailers and positioned close to the future entrance of the tunnel
The planning of this move took over 12 months, which included numerous site and route surveys.
