March 15 - British logistics company Central Freight has worked with Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) to transport a 46-tonne deaeration unit from Sheffield, UK to the USA, utilising a customised ro-ro solution.
The deaerator, which measured 19 m x 5 m x 5 m, was transported by road to Immingham, UK where it was loaded on board a shortsea service to Zeebrugge, Belgium. Once in Zeebrugge, it was transported by truck to WWL's terminal where it was kept in storage until the shipment.
The vessel selected for the shipment was the Oberon, sailing out of Zeebrugge. According to WWL, its schedule matched the customer's requirements and the ship's entrance was large enough to accommodate the deaerator.
The deaeration unit will be used in an oil rig situated in the Gulf of Mexico.
