August 23 - Project Cargo Network member representing Australia, Westlink Logistics, has completed a huge project shipment between China and Australia.
Westlink was tasked by Australian iron mining firm Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) to deliver over 800 ore railcars from Southern China to Port Hedland in Western Australia.
Westlink's project management team oversaw the railcars being barged from the Chinese manufacturing plant to a local port, before being loaded onto waiting vessels destined for Port Hedland.
According to Westlink, the sheer number of ore cars being delivered was in itself a challenge and its project team had to devise innovative solutions to minimise the number of vessels required to complete the shipment.
The discharging and on forwarding operations had to fit into the iron mine site's tight construction schedule. Westlink Logistics completed the project successfully and has subsequently been awarded phase two of the ore car delivery programme by the mine owner.
