July 28 - Westermeerwind bv has reached financial close for the turnkey construction of the Westermeerwind wind farm in IJsselmeer. Work will now begin on the building of the 48 wind turbines.
The Westermeerwind wind farm consists of 48 wind turbines with a capacity of 3MW, to be installed in the water between 500 m and 1,110 m from the dikes of the Noordoostpolder.
Installation work is scheduled to begin in March 2015, while the first turbines are expected to start delivering power to the existing grid at the end of 2015.
In March 2014, Siemens concluded a contract for the wind farm to be constructed by a consortium of Ballast Nedam and Mammoet. Ballast Nedam will design, deliver and install the 48 wind turbine foundations, after which Mammoet will transport and install the turbines.
The foundations will be installed in the water between 3 m and 7 m deep. The monopiles for the foundations are 5 m in diameter and have an average length of 40 m, with each weighing between 250 and 300 tonnes.
