The port of Gothenburg has chosen Wallenius Wilhelmsen as its new operator for the port’s vehicle and ro-ro terminal, effective February 2026 under a 12-year concession agreement.

“The company [Wallenius Wilhelmsen] has presented a strong business plan and has credibly demonstrated how they will achieve the volume targets they have committed to and operate a competitive terminal with a customer-centric approach,” said Göran Eriksson, ceo at the port of Gothenburg.

A newly established, independent company will be created to handle the port’s vehicle and ro-ro terminal, which has two quay positions, 240,000 sq m of terminal space, rail connectivity, as well as pre-delivery inspection (PDI) facilities.

“We look forward to serving the Scandinavian market, while supporting our vision of innovative and sustainable growth”, said John Felitto, chief operating officer logistics services at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

The port of Gothenburg is Sweden’s largest vehicle port, and its multipurpose terminal also handles machinery for the mining industry, wind turbine components, and transformers amongst other types of project cargo.

As part of the move, Wallenius Wilhelmsen will contribute around EUR6 million (USD6.16 million) towards modernising the terminal’s facilities and infrastructure.
