Ro-ro shipping group Wallenius Wilhelmsen has opened its South Atlantic hub at the port of Brunswick, having signed a 20-year lease with Georgia Ports Authority (GPA).
Within the facility at Brunswick, Georgia, Wallenius Wilhelmsen will have an equipment processing centre (EPC) and a vehicle processing centre (VPC).
“Brunswick, with its facilities and infrastructure investments, is well-positioned to accommodate further growth in the USA,” said John Felitto, chief operating officer logistics services at Wallenius Wilhelmsen. “We are excited to enhance our services at Brunswick and to be even better equipped to expand the scope of our South Atlantic offerings.”
Pia Synnerman, chief customer officer at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, added: “We need to be flexible on our side so we can develop our services to meet their [its customers’] needs. Brunswick is a purpose-built facility and completely modern which gives us that flexibility.”
Wallenius Wilhelmsen will utilise its sister company, Keen Transport, along with its EPC, VPC and terminal services for trucking operations. This will allow for synergy between overland and maritime services.
“The port of Brunswick’s size, scale and world-class facilities will position Wallenius Wilhelmsen for success with new supply chain opportunities,” said Griff Lynch, president and ceo, GPA.
An initial 20 years, there is the option of up to 30 years for the lease with GPA.
Earlier this month, HLPFI reported that Wallenius Wilhelmsen had been selected to operate the port of Gothenburg’s vehicle and ro-ro activities.
