July 6 - Wagenborg Nedlift received the Safety Award at the annual ESTA meeting in Amsterdam, writes Jamie May.
The company's Equipment Department was given the Safety Award after developing a system to ensure a double hoisting block remains in a horizontal position, reducing risk in lifting operations.
The system works using an electronic sensor on the hoisting block, which monitors its position. The information is sent to an operator cabin through a wireless connection, and the crane operator can then correct the position when necessary.
ESTA is the European Association of heavy transport and lifting companies in Europe. Its ESTA Awards are judged on heavy transport, lifting, safety and innovation.
