May 1 - ESTA (the European Association of Heavy Transport and Lifting companies), has named Wagenborg Nedlift as the winner of its 'Lifting jobs up to 120 tons' award.

The prize winning project saw Wagenborg Nedlift handle the lift and shift of a pipeline more than 400 m in length and with a gross weight of 77 tonnes during a drilling operation at the newly built Magnum Powerplant in Eemshaven, the Netherlands, to construct a new gas pipeline linking the Gasunie Spijk gas network up to the new power plant.

This gas pipeline crosses the only major road onto Eemshaven industrial park and it was deemed unacceptable that this road would be blocked during construction work. Therefore, the main contractor elected to employ a horizontal drilling operation underneath the main road.

Wagenborg Nedlift says that keeping the pipeline at a perfect entry angle at the front of the drilling hole without overloading one or more of the eight cranes used on this job was a major challenge, which it met through the use of accurate height measuring and timely communications.

"A fine piece of co-operation within our project team," says managing director Ton Klijn, who was more than happy to receive the award.
