May 3 - Abu Dhabi Ports has posted a 31 percent year-on-year increase in ro-ro traffic at Khalifa Port during the first quarter of 2016, as well as a 13 percent growth in general and bulk cargo volumes across its ports.
Ro-ro traffic at Khalifa Port grw from 25,709 vehicles in the first quarter of 2015 to 33,687 vehicles in the same period of 2016; while general and bulk cargoes reached 3.98 million freight tonnes, compared with 3.5 million freight tonnes last year.
Abu Dhabi Ports attributed the increase in general and bulk cargo volumes to strong import and export activities related to industrial and infrastructure development projects in the Emirate.
Container throughput at Khalifa Port also grew by 5 percent year-on-year during the reporting period.
