June 15 - Volga-Dnepr Airlines has delivered a 28-tonne shipment of power station equipment from New York to Cairo, for use in the Suez Canal widening project.
The units, which were mounted onto special 6 m cradles, were initially too high for the IL-76TD-90VD freighter, but Volga-Dnepr's engineers removed the top and side parts of the cradle, allowing the cargo to be loaded using the airline's wing-lift system, skates and rails.
Volga-Dnepr completed the transportation on behalf of Egyptian air broker Wi Fli Aviation Solutions.
The power station equipment will be used to support Egypt's ambitious plans to widen the Suez Canal, which is due for completion in August 2015.
