Volga-Dnepr delivers for the Silk Way Rally
October 2 - Once again, Volga-Dnepr Airlines' has support the air unit participating in the Silk Way Rally 2012.
Some 100 cars and 25 trucks (pictured below in Moscow at the start of the race) competed in the 4,000 km event, which includes 2,092.64 kms of timed sectors, with competitors beginning their journey in Moscow and finishing six days later in the Russia city of Sochi, host of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
As the holder of a Flight Dispatch and Operations Control License, Volga-Dnepr was tasked by the organisers to provide support for the seven airplanes and six helicopters that comprise the Silk Way Rally air unit. During the six days of tournament, the fleet of fixed and rotary-winged aircraft flew a combined 339 hours thanks to the air navigation support provided by Volga-Dnepr.
Participants in the event came from 25 countries in Europe, Asia and Southern America. In total the event was watched on television by viewers in some 190 countries.
