September 11 - Heavy haulage specialist Van der Vlist recently collected two Caterpillar R2900 machines from Antwerp, Belgium to take to Terneuzen in the Netherlands.
The machines measured 11.75 m long, 3.32 m wide and 3 m tall - ideally suited for working underground. Despite their short height each machine tipped the scales at approximately 57 tonnes.
Each Caterpillar unit had been shipped from Melbourne, Australia to the Belgian gateway where they were met by three-axle Van der Vlist trucks to be loaded on to five-axle semi low-trailers. Van der Vlist safely transported the giant machines to from port-to-port without incident, where they continued on their journey to Sweden where they will be used to search for silver, lead and zinc.
