Value Maritime (VM) is collaborating with ForestWave to retrofit two 10,600 dwt general cargo vessels with VM’s emission-reducing exhaust gas cleaning systems system and integrated carbon capture unit.

FWN-Sun

The agreement marks the first contract between VM and ForestWave. The filter system with carbon capture and storage technology, capable of capturing up to 10 percent of CO2 emissions, will be installed on the FWN Sea and FWN Sun at the VM quay in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The plug-and-play filtering system unit differentiates from similar units thanks to its small size, allowing for easy installation on these vessels.

ForestWave has opted for a next-generation 3 MW system with a 10 percent carbon capture rate and the option to upgrade to a 30 percent carbon capture rate. The CO2 will be collected in a dedicated tank onboard. The system also filters 99 percent of ultra-fine particulate matter from the vessels’ exhaust streams.

The installations are scheduled for late 2024.
