August 27 - V. Alexander Transport Systems has coordinated the delivery of an automotive press, weighing over 270 tonnes, from Germany to White in the US State of Georgia.
The consignment was packed and crated at its origin in Germany, before being barged to the nearest port, where cranes were used to lift the cargo onto Mafi trailers ready to be driven onto a ro-ro vessel for shipment to the USA.
The total shipment included one 20 ft dry van container, one 40 ft high cube container, six 40 ft open top containers and seven breakbulk units.
On arrival in the USA, the press was loaded onto a specialised trailer in order to continue its journey by road to the site in White. Due to the large size of the transport combination, the vehicle took up two lanes of the Interstate 20, causing severe traffic disruption, explained V. Alexander.
Extensive route planning was involved in order to avoid bridges that would not withstand the vehicle's weight, while two Georgia State patrol vehicles were used to assist the route along the highway.
