July 14 - A major Chinese shipbuilder supplying ships to the global offshore industry has acquired a management system that optimises project control, logistics, materials management, production, resources and planning specifically designed for shipyards.
GSHI, formerly GMG Shipbuilding & Heavy Industry, is a Chinese-foreign joint venture specialising in the research and manufacture of offshore vessels and other special purpose ships, selected Cambridge, UK-based Aveva Marsadvanced software tools and open technology in a competitive tender. It will be implemented in GSHI's Zhongshan city shipyard and the contract will see an initial 100 concurrent users.
GSHI has a history stretching back to the 1960s and has grown from a shipping agency into a shipbuilder offering ship design, manufacture, supervision, financing and leasing services. The yard has built many offshore support vessels, tugboats and other workboats in its 380,000 cu m area.
In April, 2011 the yard launched a 58.7 m multi-purpose utility vessel built for Tidewater Inc.
