June 17 - Tuscor Lloyds has transported a 58-tonne cable reel from Newcastle, UK to Manila in the Philippines via South Korea's port of Busan.
The steel wire rope reel was picked up from the manufacturer's facility in Newcastle and transported by road to the port of Felixstowe.
Tuscor Lloyds said that it chose to ship the cargo from Felixstowe rather than Newcastle's port of Tyne because it allowed for a reduced transit time and more direct route from the UK to South Korea.
The cable reel was delivered to the quayside in Felixstowe, where two flatrack containers had already been lifted and loaded onto a container vessel.
A heavy lift crane was then used to lift the cable reel onto the containers, which had been fitted with heavy dunnage spanning the complete width of the two flatracks in order to spread the weight and increase the friction.
Securing was carried out by the port stevedores using wooden chocks, two-tonne webbing lashings on each corner and four-tonne webbing lashing on the arms of the reel, which ensured that the cargo would be safe for ocean transit to Busan.
Once in Busan, the cable reel was unloaded from the vessel using onsite cranes fitted with specialist gear for heavy cargo, before being transferred onto low loader trucks and delivered to the port of Masan.
From the port of Masan, the cargo was loaded onto another container vessel using two more flatracks and similar securing methods for shipment to the Philippine port of Manila.
