June 18 - The next issue of HLPFI takes an in-depth look at training within the heavy lift and project forwarding sector and we have noted a number of forthcoming training opportunities.
The Certificate of Achievement in Project Cargo Management short course is designed to meet the professional development needs of attendees by focusing on efficiency tools that can eliminate the downstream risk of failure, say the organisers.
The training will be held in Houston October 8-9, 2012, in conjunction with the Breakbulk Americas conference and exhibition at the George R. Brown Convention Center and Hilton Americas.
Project cargo management specialist and general manager of the Project Professionals Group, Kevin Stephens, and professional communication consultant and educator Rodger Hall have customised the training modules to ensure the heavy lift freight forwarding sector is better qualified to tackle the demands of increasingly complex, multimodal projects.
Stephens said one of the major reasons for failure was lack of skills and experience to counter the often unexpected challenges arising during a project.
"Mismanaging project cargo not only adds significant additional costs but severely damages corporate reputation," Stephens said. "This training incorporates contemporary industry experience and contexts in the teaching and learning process and as a result has been well received by previous participants."
The ISO accredited two-day training course is open to all project forwarders, general freight forwarders and industry partners. Previous courses have also attracted middle to senior management and junior personnel from the railway sector, port authorities, heavy engineering and construction industries, road transport, ship owners and stevedoring industries, as the course is designed to bring clarity and understanding from all sides of the equation.
Meanwhile Power-Lift has revealed the agendas for its next two heavy transport and lifting courses which will take place on September 5, 2012 in Durban, South Africa; and in Houston, USA on October 9, 2012.
The organisers say that the Power Logistics courses will focus on exceptional transport load securing, as well as lifting with hydraulic gantry and strand jacks.
