June 14 - Terex Port Solutions (TPS) has presented a newly designed training programme for harbour crane operators at the TOC Europe exhibition in Hamburg, Germany.

Terex says that the new programme will help crane owners fully exploit the potential of Terex Gottwald mobile harbour cranes with regards to performance and cost-effectiveness.

The training programme will offer specific modules - ranging from crane operator evaluation to safety training for experienced operators - as well as a new simulator.

Using state-of-the-art technology, the simulator features original components, such as the crane control system, crane operator seat, joysticks and Visumatic monitor, which TPS says makes for a particularly realistic training scenario.

"Our new simulator satisfies the highest requirements and during the development phase experienced crane operators were impressed with how realistic the simulations were," said Alexander Bongart, head of the training department at TPS in Düsseldorf, Germany.

TPS explained that simulator training courses are especially safe, since real damage is ruled out in simulated extreme weather conditions and dangerous situations. "Another major advantage is that future crane operators can be trained with the simulator before the harbour crane is delivered," added Bongart.

"By individually combining the new simulator training modules with proven on-site training courses, we offer every crane owner customised concepts for high-performance and safe cargo handling."
