February 24 - The Swiss rail freight service provider, the InterRail Group, has transported 41 high cube 40 ft containers full of steel equipment over 8,000 km along the wide gauge railway connection between Europe and China.
InterRail made a record transit time of only nine days between Brest at the Polish-Belorussian border and Erenhot at the border between Mongolia and China, claims the company.
The steel equipment was destined for infrastructure projects in the Chinese hinterland.
Since 2012, the group has intensified its commitments and activities in operating trains between Europe and China. "There is significant demand for reliable transport services cheaper than air freight and faster than sea freight, which is why we are extending out service portfolio for rail freight," explained Howard Lamb, chief executive officer of InterRail.
