April 8 - Damani Shipping Pvt Ltd acted as air freight agents to transport eight steel plates from Mumbai to the Brazilian town of Porto Alegre on a part charter.
The plates, which had a total weight of 24 tonnes, were transported as an over-dimensional consignment. Due to the dimensions of the cargo, not all airlines operating from Mumbai could deal with such a load and Damani required a MD11 freighter aircraft to perform the job.
Damani claims that this is a record for transporting steel plates via air freight, since steel plates with a length of 17 ft are a rare commodity to be flown from India to Brazil.
