April 6 - Following the end of Nordana/Weco's 60 year-old service from the Mediterranean to the Americas, shipping line Spliethoff has revealed that it is extending its Medliner service to include a direct call at Veracruz in Mexico.
The fortnightly service calls at Gemlik and Izmir/Gulluk in Turkey; Monfalcone, Porto Marghera and Genoa in Italy; then heads across to the Atlantic to Chester, Port Everglades, New Orleans and Houston in the USA, before sailing on to Veracruz.
Spliethoff, which is a member of the Amsterdam-based Spliethoff Group, says it will be looking to strengthen its service for other Latin American destinations via transshipment.
Parent company, Spliethoff Group manages a large and modern fleet of over 100 multipurpose, heavy lift (lifting capacities of up to 1,800 tonnes), ro-ro and semi-submersible vessels ranging in size from 3,000 to 23,000 dwt.
