April 11 - Spliethoff Group is integrating BigLift Shipping's Toronto office into its Great Lakes department.
In 2013, Spliethoff and The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority in Cleveland, Ohio, struck a deal to begin the first combined container and general cargo shipping route between Cleveland and Northern Europe - the Spliethoff Cleveland Europe Express (CEEWAY).
Due to the success of this route and the growth of Spliethoff's Canadian operations, the Netherlands headquartered company has decided to amalgamate the expertise of Spliethoff and BigLift into one combined operation.
Peter Eisenhardt and Doug Grennan, of BigLift Toronto, will contribute to the development and expansion of Spliethoff's services to and from the Great Lakes region and Western Canada, as well as marketing the BigLift brand.
BigLift's office in Toronto has been renamed Spliethoff Toronto. The Spliethoff brand will now cover Central and Western Canada.
