December 9 - Over dimensional items for the wind energy industry are target cargoes for a new port being built on the Kiel Canal at Osterroenfeld, near Rendsburg.
To be called Neuer Hafen Kiel-Canal, the new port will have 300 m of quayside and two berths. The construction should be finished in 2010.
A major source of cargoes for the new port will be wind power plant equipment produced in the adjacent industrial park. It has been suggested that from 2010 as many as 300 such items will be produced in the industrial area and shipped abroad via the new port.
