September 23 - Sofrana is adding a second ship on the service it operates between New Zealand and Fiji to give it a weekly schedule, as opposed to the existing fortnightly schedule.
Capitaine Cook will join the existing ship, Capitaine Wallis, from the middle of November to offer a fixed-day weekly connection between New Zealand and Fiji for the local markets, as well as connectivity to international markets via Auckland and Tauranga.
This service framework has been made possible through a vessel sharing agreement between regional partners including Neptune Pacific Line, Pacific Direct Line, Pacific Forum Line as well as Sofrana Unilines. This weekly network will also be supported by Maersk Line and CMA CGM.
Sofrana says that such an arrangement is part of its logical strategy to ensure that mega carriers and regional operators cooperate to service the South Pacific markets in a sustainable fashion. It adds that it can handle most project cargoes.
