December 21 - The new Tunisian airport at Enfidha was declared open by the Tunisian subsidiary of its Turkish operator TAV earlier this month, writes Oliver Ward.
As the prime transportation contractor, Istanbul-based SNS International Transport completed the delivery of equipment and construction materials which were required and the airport's first phase opened on schedule.
The airport, construction of which commenced in 2007, has been built to serve the passenger and cargo needs of the areas of Hammamet, Sousse, Sfax, Port Kantaoui and Nabeul, which takes the strain off the existing airport in Carthage.
SNS delivered all the construction materials and equipment, including many long length steel prefabrications and machinery items, the majority of which came from Turkey but also included deliveries from Germany, UK, Holland, Belgium, China, USA, Spain and Italy.
Efsun Sarac, managing director of SNS, said: "We are so pleased that this state-of-the-art airport has been completed with our assistance, it is something we can take great pride in. The timing of the deliveries were crucial in ensuring that the project was completed in the short time allowed. Pulling everything together in the right order, from all these different locations was a challenge that kept us on the ball 24/7, 365 days of the year, but it is all now successfully completed."
