December 29 - The Baku-based Silk Way Group has confirmed reports in the Azerbaijani and Russian media that it has signed a letter of intent with Boeing for the purchase of three 747-8 freighters.
HLPFI has been advised that the agreement was signed at a ceremony in Baku celebrating the delivery of the first 787-8 to Azerbaijan Airlines.
The three 747-8Fs are scheduled for delivery in 2015 and 2016, and it is assumed that they will be operated by Silk Way West Airlines, one of the two airlines within the Silk Way Group.
In August this year, Silk Way West took delivery of two 747-8Fs and also operates three 747-400Fs and two 767-300Fs.
Sister carrier Silk Way Airlines operates a varied fleet of Il-76 and AN-12 freighters.
