July 11 - Seaboard Marine has launched a weekly service connecting the Port of New Orleans with Colombia, Panama and Costa Rica.
The expanded service - which previously served only north Central America, including Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua - will now provide exporters and importers in Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica with a direct transit to the US Gulf, said Seaboard Marine.
The new service will call at Cartagena and Turbo (Colombia), Manzanillo (Panama) and Puerto Limon (Costa Rica).
"This is a positive development for our existing customers as well as those currently moving cargo between the Gulf and Central and South America," said Seaboard Marine vice president Jose Concepcion.
Although focusing on the movement of containerised goods, Seaboard Marine has a specialised equipment fleet - including lowboy trailers, roll trailers, single and double drop deck flatbeds - capable of transporting heavy and oversize cargoes.
HLPFI reported on June 2 that MACS has begun a connecting carrier agreement with Seaboard Marine.
