May 20 - The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) has announced the winners of its 2010 Rigging Job of the Year Awards.
Barnhart Crane & Rigging won awards in two categories. For a project over $750,000 the company replaced a reactor head at a California nuclear power plant. Barnhart provided a heavy lift system, custom-rigging solutions and an engineered rigging to perform the job.
In the under $150,000 category Barnhart replaced a damaged bridge girder which had been struck by a tractor-trailer carrying a wind turbine tower base. The damaged bridge section needed to be removed from a highway overpass and then replaced with a new box girder section.
Crane Rental Corp. won an award in the category $150,000-$750,000. Using a rare rigging technique and a broad range of lifting and transportation equipment, Crane Rental Corp. successfully installed a 150-foot long conveyor section weighing 240,000 pounds across a 240-foot wide intake canal at a coal-fired power plant in Florida.
