Samskip and Matrans Rotterdam Terminal have launched a new terminal in the Dutch city that will serve as a hub for container and breakbulk transport activities.
The multimodal hub will adopt sustainable solutions, such as electric vehicles, shore power and solar power. Digital systems will optimise transport and operations, driving improved efficiency and reliability, said Samskip.
Samskip said the terminal will help it increase control and visibility over vessel, rail and barge operations. Terminal operator Matrans will continue to provide services for existing customers in breakbulk, containers and ro-ro.
Earlier this year, Samskip expanded its Baltic Sea shortsea service with increased capacity and the addition of the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda to its network.
