March 19 - S & B Schwertrans GmbH has acquired a Terex Challenger 3160 all-terrain crane.
Founded in Germany in 2000, the Gifhorn-based company provides a range of services from heavy load and machine transportation to crane operations. The company said it appreciates the unit's compact design and 50 m telescopic boom, as well as an axle load of less than 12 tonnes which allows the unit to travel to any site and begin work immediately without the need of an escort vehicle.
The Challenger 3160 is about to tackle its first assignment for the company at a factory owned by one of the world's largest automakers. Terex claims that the Terex Challenger 3160 is currently the only three-axle crane with a 55 tonne lifting capacity designed with one-person operation in mind. With a 50 m single-cylinder telescopic boom and a maximum lifting capacity of 35.6 tonnes when working with a reach of four meters, the Terex Challenger 3160 can be operated independently by a single person while remaining under an axle load limit of 12 tonnes.
