April 7 - RZD Logistics, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, and Azerbaijan Railways have struck an agreement to help develop the multimodal North-South Transport Corridor.
The two organisations agreed on a pass-through route that is designed to attract greater levels of freight traffic on the multimodal route. This route originates in India, and passes through Iran, Azerbaijan to Russia.
The majority of freight flowing from India and Iran to the EU is via sea-based routes; the average transit time from Nava Sheva, Mumbai to Moscow is 40 days. The North-South multimodal route halves this transit time to 19 days.
