September 12 - Rope and Sling Specialists (RSS) provided rigging equipment to Ainscough Crane Hire to assist with the emergency removal of a footbridge section from a UK motorway, after the bridge was hit by a lorry and collapsed onto the road.
Ainscough employed two 300-tonne capacity mobile cranes to conduct the tandem lift, sourcing auxiliary equipment from RSS, including a 100-tonne capacity spreader beam.
Since Highways England was keen to reopen the motorway - which links London with the Port of Dover - as soon as possible, Ainscough and RSS were required to act quickly, safely removing the bridge section from the motorway.
Upon completion of the lift the rigging equipment was returned to RSS' facility in Aylesbury, Kent, where thorough examination took place in line with Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).
