April 14 - Cargo throughput at the Port of Rotterdam increased by 2 percent in the first quarter of 2017, in comparison to the same period last year, reaching 119.3 million tonnes.
According to the port authority, ro-ro traffic is still on the rise, including an increase of shipments to the UK, which grew by 6.5 percent to 5.7 million tonnes. The port claims this is due to services that started last year.
Throughput of general cargo increased by 49.9 percent, while throughput of breakbulk cargoes improved by 14.5 percent to 7.6 million tonnes.
Of the 11 commodities that pass through the port, only mineral oil products and other liquid bulk showed a decrease.
