The Netherlands-based Amasus Shipping has taken delivery of the multipurpose vessel Rotra Futura from the Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard in China.
The offshore wind ro-ro vessel measures 167.6 m x 26 m and was designed by Amasus, deugro, Siemens Gamesa, and Concordia Damen Shipbuilding.
Rotra Futura has been designed to handle the latest generation of larger, heavier wind turbine components. The vessel’s ro-ro and gantry system enhance efficiency by limiting risk, reducing loading times, and cutting costs.
With a ramp facilitating larger loads, the Rotra vessels are equipped with three Liebherr cranes which allows for turbine blades to be stored in three tiers.
HLPFI reported in November 2024 that Rotra Futura had been launched. Measuring 167.6 m x 26 m, and with both the wheelhouse and accommodation located at the front of the ship, the modernised Rotra design maximises cargo capacity while ensuring optimal loading without impacting visibility.
The aerodynamic and hydro-optimised hull design, combined with a special low-resistance coating, contributes to lower fuel consumption. The vessels is equipped with an advanced Wärtsilä main engine, which consumes 15 percent less fuel and has a smaller CO2 emission footprint than current standards.
